Banksy at the Oscars

I really hope 'Exit Through the Gift Shop' takes home the Oscar for Best Docu. I love Banksy. I think what I love about him most is that he makes the gray area between Art and Vandalism really colourful.

The snark
"I used to encourage everyone I knew to make art; I don't do that so much anymore."

"Yeah, I was faced with that terrible thing, when somebody shows you their work and everything about it is shit... so... you don't really know where to start."

"Uhmmm... You know... it was at that point that I realized that maybe Thierry wasn't actually a film maker, and he was maybe just someone with mental problems who happened to have a camera."

and the blatant Oscar campaign

are lovely perks.

sum pisces ... or you are what you eat.

the cream dory i bought over a week ago was begging to be cooked. every time i opened the freezer to get ice cream, frozen berries or bread, i can hear its fishy cry. "i've had enough of your cold treatment." *sob*

and because i like funny fishies, i gave in.

Dill Do Panfried Cream Dory with Lemon-Butter and Dill Sauce

what you need:
• seasoned flour
• the rest of the ingredients are in the dish' name :p

what to do:

• heat a non-stick pan, melt butter. add oil to prevent butter from burning
• dredge dory in flour seasoned with salt, black and cayenne pepper
• fry. and fry until you succeed.
• fish out the um, fish.
• add (more) butter to the pan and deglaze it with the juice of half a lemon
• pour lemon-butter love over the fish
• serve with dill sauce

clockwise: seasoned flour, butter, cream dory and lemon, dill sauce
finally, a fish that fits that damn plate!

Dong Bei Fried Dumpling

I'm not a morning person, and I believe Sundays should be spent at home just lounging but I certainly didn't mind getting up at 7am to go on the Big Binondo Food Wok with my friend, Ice.

Skip sleep for food? Yes, I would.

Hit by (a) Train

I only have 10 minutes before I get ready and leave for the airport so full blog entry on the Save Me, San Francisco Tour experience will have to wait.

Train killed it and Pat sang his face off. I wanna do it again!

There are so many things you can do with stale bread -- croutons, pudding, relish, cereal, even coffee!
Today, I took a 3-day old baguette and made stove-top quiche.
[side note: It's not really a quiche 'quiche.' 1. It's not baked and 2. the only dairy in the recipe is the cream cheese. I'm lactose intolerant so no milk.] It's easy and makes for a very filling breakfast.

I apologize for the lack of measurements. I'm not very good at quantifying my ingredients but if you know how to make an omelet, you can make this.

What you will need:
• old bread, cubed
• white onion, sliced thinly
• cream cheese, crumbled
• bacon bits
• eggs, beaten

In a non-stick pan, fry the bacon until crisp. Take the bacon out and let cool, leaving the rendered fat in the pan.
Sweat the onion in the bacon fat until translucent, set aside.

Now you start assembling you batter.

In a bowl, combine eggs, bread, cheese, bacon and onion.  Let the batter sit for 5-10 minutes or as soon as you can moosh (is that a word hahaha) your bread. The consistency should resemble that of well, pancake batter.
In the same pan, ladle in the batter and cook slowly, covered.  Once the eggs have set and you have your faux crust slide it out of the pan. Cut into wedges and serve.

Tip: If you are feeling kitschy, you can use cookie cutters to cut your quiche.
Kitschy Quiche!
